Mother's Day Gift:

The best Mother’s Day gift this year is a membership to the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. There are many different tiers of membership depending on how much you wish to spend and it truly is one of the most beautiful and peaceful spaces in Sarasota…

March Madness at Lee Roy Selmon's

We’re gearing up for Selection Sunday March 11th, 2012 and, if you are involved in an office bracket like I am, you know that Sunday signifies the official start of March Madness!! I’m the organizer of the brackets in my office pool – The ‘Bracket Mistress’ –  and this year I am bound and determined to come out on top. I am offically declaring that I want UNC-Asheville to live up to the hype and win it all because I am NOT a Syracuse fan. A group of us diehard March Madness fans…

My Secret's Exposed

It’s far from a secret that I have a love affair with Brasserie Belge on Main Street Downtown. What started out as a courtship, quickly grew into a discrete yearning. It wasn’t long before I was pinned and had eyes swooning for my Western European lover. If it’s possible for me to gush more, now is the time. To say “the best just got better” would be a farce in the sense that it wouldn’t do Brasserie Belge enough justice. Brilliance became magnificent? Okay, those lush words will have to do.…

5 Ways to Rescue Your Resolution

Have you broken your New Year’s resolution yet? If you have, you are not alone. Research shows that a third of people who make resolutions won’t even make it to the end of January and nearly 80 percent of resolutions will ultimately be broken. By February, only 64 percent of people who make resolutions are still able to keep them. And, to add insult to injury, many of us make and break the same resolution – to live healthier - year in and year out.

So what can be done…

Dine and Enter to Win a Three-day Getaway

Everyone I know is a restaurant critic of sorts. Who doesn’t like to discuss the food, the ambiance and, of course, the service when dining? Put those thoughts on paper, and you could win a complimentary three-day, two-night getaway for two at the Colony Beach and Tennis Club in addition to dining at several Savor Sarasota restaurants, including the renowned Michael’s…

FORKS AND CORKS AT COSIMO'S

The Forks and Corks Food and Wine Festival premiered this year with wine tasting dinners at various restaurants. It was a delightful beginning to a three day celebration of food and wine. I joined other food and wine enthusiasts at the Forks and Corks Tasting Dinner at Cosimo’s Brick Oven where Executive Chefs Shane Dabney from Cosimo’s Brick Oven at… Continue

Conquering Food, Weight & Body Image From the Inside-Out - continued

Happy New Year! In my last blog on WQ we talked about a fictitious person, “Jane,” who was struggling with the conflict between her desire to lose weight and get healthier and her immediate cravings and urges to eat whatever she wants. As a result we said that Jane had been struggling with 30 to 40 pounds for years. She had been on many diets and she was now trying to keep her New Year’s resolution to… Continue

Dear Coach: Home for the Holidays: Warm and Secure or Fodder for a Binge?

Often in health and weight-loss coaching one of the main topics to come up is that of Holidays, family and food. A recent client conversation reminded me of the "boomerang" affects that being home for the Holidays has on her. You just might relate to what she says below:

"My usual pattern on Holidays is that I make it all the way through," she says. What she means is that she doesn't even touch the sweets and treats -- avoids the alcohol, the breads and fatty foods --… Continue

Karr's Corner Cafe: a pleasant surprise

I prefer to eat at local independent restaurants. Today I had the pleasure of dining at Karr's Cafe at 3025 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. Wow! Vegetarian, Vegan and "Where's the Beef" all in one restaurant. I highly recommend it. Remember local shopping and dining makes a huge different in our Local Economy.
